An update from our original post.
Remember John Goodman, the Florida billionaire who adopted his 42-year-old girlfriend to shield his assets? He anticipated that the parents of the boy he killed were going to sue him. Well . . .
The parents settled with him for $33 million. And his girlfriend is still his adopted child. Go figure how this one will untangle. Presumably they’re still dating.
More importantly, he was found guilty of DUI manslaughter, and sentenced to 16 years in jail. But he has a new bunch of lawyers who are bringing motions and an appeal, which could take as long as two years to decide.
Meantime, Goodman is under house arrest. He is guarded 24 hours a day by two off-duty deputies. Goodman pays the sheriff $2,000 a day to pay for the deputies.
He is allowed one hour a day outside of his house, on his 160-acre property. According to The Palm Beach Post, there is no report as to whether the hour can be spent in his pool or on his tennis court.
Goodman is allowed a few visitors a day, “aside from relatives,” according to The Post. It is not clear whether his girlfriend/adopted daughter counts as a relative.
